Weaving Just and Sustainable Food Futures: Regional Approaches and Strategies

A workshop focusing on the Right to Food, Agroecology, Food Sovereignty and Just Transitions

The UVM Institute for Agroecology, Food Solutions New England and ATTER have organized a workshop at Knoll Farm in Vermont, USA, on July 15th and 16th, entitled “Weaving Just and Sustainable Food Futures: Regional Approaches and Strategies”.  The workshop brought together 45 participants from diverse backgrounds (researchers, organizers, policy-makers, civil society actors and others). Co-learning, Connecting and Collaboration (Exploring opportunities for new partnership, projects, publications and lines of work) were the three transversal key objectives of the workshop. It drew on participants’ experiences, case studies and knowledge to discuss governance, power and equity in regional approaches. It particularly explored the extent to which concepts like the Right to Food, Agroecology, Food Sovereignty and Just Transitions can help to focus on root problems and guide the transformation of food systems. Among the outcomes, a new project on food democracy experiments is being designed by a group bringing together 5 ATTER partners (Inrae, UVM, Urgenci, FIAN and UFRRJ).
