Cross-fertilisation workshop in Carmarthenshire

A cross-fertilisation workshop was organized on March 17th 2023 around the Carmarthenshire and the Ouest Vosgien cases, with crossed presentations.

A cross-fertilisation workshop was organized on March 17th in Carmarthenshire during the secondments of Fabienne Barataud, Claire Lamine and Danièle Magda around the Carmarthenshire and the Ouest Vosgien cases, with crossed presentations by Fabienne and Terry Marsden.

This mobility allowed continuing the work of building the trajectory of this case study based on documents, discussions with colleagues and feedback from the FPAC - Food Policy Alliance Cymru. The FPAC group has emerged from the convergence of scientists, local institutions agents, environmental and farmers networks (WWF, LWA) involved in food policies analysis, discussion and implementation. The crossing of the two cases showed similarities because in each of them a large part of the agricultural activity is organized around grazing livestock with common problems (income, high dependence on price fluctuations and long supply chains, need for processing tools, etc. ). On the other hand, what distinguishes them is precisely the differences in framing and regulation by food policies with, in the case of Carmarthenshire, a great deal of uncertainty following the Brexit and its consequences on the reconfiguration of policies with a risk of recentralization that could slow down the transition process.
